Jack Daniels, the Tennessee whiskey division of Brown-Forman Distillers, announced that it was ending its’ five-year relationship with Richard Childress Racing.

This year, the whiskey company’s No. 07 Chevrolet has been driven by Casey Mears, and previously Dave Blaney (in 2005) and Clint Bowyer (2006-2008).

“Being flexible with our strategic investments has been a consistent theme for us at Brown-Forman and I support the decision to move from sponsoring NASCAR to investments in other areas,” said Paul Varga, chief executive officer of Brown-Forman.

“Richard Childress has been a great partner and this decision simply reflects a change in our investment mix, and not any dissatisfaction with RCR or NASCAR.”

Kurt Busch’s crew chief, shut out of Penske Racing Shop

Coming on the heels of the announcement that Kurt Busch’s crew chief, Pat Tryson, would be joining Michael Waltrip Racing next year, the 46 year-old was told he would be permitted in the Penske Racing shop – only on Tuesdays for team meetings.

The rationale is likely based on a desire to shield 2010 plans from an employee who will not be returning.

The only problem is that Busch is still a contender for the championship; he’s fifth in the points.

Jimmie Johnson proved that he could win without his crew chief, Chad Knaus, when Knaus was banned from race tracks for six races, the exact opposite of Tryson’s current situation.

How low can you go?
Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Toyota, which finished fifth at New Hampshire was found too low in a post-race inspection. Penalties are usually announced on Tuesdays.

Testing, testing….
Goodyear has scheduled a tire test at Daytona International Speedway for Tuesday and Wednesday. Participants include: Roush Fenway Racing’s David Ragan, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Joey Logano, JTG Daugherty Racing’s Marcos Ambrose, Richard Childress Racing’s Clint Bowyer as well as to-be-named driver from Penske Racing.
