First qualifying for the Macau Grand Prix Formula 3 race turned into a very close battle: with an advantage of only 0.02 seconds, António Félix da Costa (Carlin, 2m13.400) beat his main rival Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport, 2m13.420).

Da Costa recently took part in the Formula 1 young driver test in Abu Dhabi, driving the mighty Red Bull-Renault RB8.

Carlin driver Carlos Sainz (2m13.421) took third place third place in front of Alex Lynn (Fortec, 2m13.718) and Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam, 2m13.800).

Qualifying had to be interrupted for a few minutes following a collision by Andrea Roda (Jo Zeller Racing) in the closing stages. The two drivers of the Van Amersfoort team, Dennis van de Laar and Lucas Auer had also run into the barriers before that. For them, as well as for Roda, qualifying was over.
