Mazda Shows a Bit More of its First Electric Vehicle

Mazda confirmed a while ago that it was about to present an all-electric vehicle, and that the official reveal of the very first Mazda all-electric vehicle will take place at the Tokyo auto show next week.

Auto123 will be on hand for the premiere presentation of this highly-anticipated EV, but meantime, Mazda is doing what’s required to pump up interest even further, including releasing a short video that reveals a little bit more of the model.

The video doesn’t actually show us what the EV will look like, exactly, but it does reveal that Mazda’s first all-electric will, shockingly, be a small SUV. A glimpse of the roofline shows furthermore that it will be a relatively sporty-looking crossover, the styling of which reflects the Japanese automaker’s Kodo design philosophy.

"By rethinking what matters most, the overall form is uncompromisingly simple and adopts a unique door concept, opening your mind.”

The system was placed into a prototype that was in fact the new CX-4 model from the manufacturer; the exercice was designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the powertrain to automotive media, but Mazda specified that the EV that will be presented in Tokyo is not be a version of the CX-4.

We’ll have many more details for you next week once the product is presented in Tokyo. And the month after that, we’ll be at the Los Angeles Auto Show along with Mazda for the presentation of yet another new product.

Stay tuned.
