On Tuesday, we wrongfully and regretfully reported that Mazda had been quoted as stating the midsize Mazda6 was on its last legs.

This information was sourced from the Japanese newspaper Nikkan Kogyo however we were told, along with Car and Driver, by our respective company representatives that the Mazda6 is here to stay. Mazda Canada has confirmed that it has no intention to discontinue the 6. The Mazda6 is an important part of Mazda’s product line-up and will continue to be so in the future.

In fact, the current generation of the car will remain on showroom floors for a good number of years yet.

Although not confirmed, production of the 6 may move to Mexico where labour is a good-deal less expensive than at Ford and Mazda's Flat Rock, Michigan, assembly line.
