Ever since Mazda decided to abandon the RX-8 sports coupe, fans and advocates of the rotary engine have been fearing the worst. However, some new information will keep their hopes alive.
A company spokesman just posted the following tweet: ''Mazda is aiming to achieve a breakthrough with the ‘Skyactiv’ technology, and we are zealously working on new models to house the next-generation rotary engine.''
This comes after Mazda president and CEO Takashi Tamanouchi repeatedly stated that the company will continue to develop its rotary engine after the demise of the RX-8 in June of 2012.
Is that vague enough for you? At least it has the rumour mill spinning again.
Will Mazda design a completely new model, create an evolution of the legendary RX-7, or boldly jump into the unknown by producing the gorgeous Shinari concept? We'll have the answers in the coming months, so stay tune!
