Selection of option packages partly to credit
The compact sports-tourer which Mercedes-Benz calls the "B-class" has managed to reach the driveways of about 120,000 customers in the past year. The model represents the German automakers approach to offering a vehicle with plenty of space, safety and versatility to those needing a recreationally oriented family hauler that is practical, exciting and offers a typical Mercedes-Benz driving experience and build quality.
The B-Class is available with either a 2.0 Litre 4-cylinder engine with 134 horsepower, or a turbocharged variant with 193 horsepower. A manual transmission or continually variable transmission (CVT) is available for each engine. Despite the various configurations available when configuring the drivetrain, Mercedes gives credit for the sales success to the various equipment packages offered to buyers.
The selection of additional equipment and combinations of options is delivered at a reduced price compared to fitting each option separately, and communicates an understanding that consumers are increasingly looking to their vehicles to express their personalities and tastes with features to match their lifestyles.
The latest package available for the B-Class, the Active package, is comprised of a panoramic roof with sunshade, cruise control, fog lamps and extra storage mounted beneath the front seats. There is also an auxiliary input to the stereo system allowing audiophiles to easily connect their favorite MP3 playback device for
listening on the road. Further to the Active package is a Sight and Light package which includes a rain sensor and automatically activated headlamps. A chrome package is also available for added visual appeal, with chrome inserts added inside and out.
A slew of other options are available, including a premium stereo, navigation system, bi-xenon lighting with active curve illumination and an alarm system.
