Mercedes-Benz recently introduced the new E320 BLUETEC, a diesel-powered sedan that will be offered to Californian consumers for a special two-year lease (24,000 km/year). This model will be available in limited numbers.
The E320 BLUETEC made a name for itself by winning, earlier this year, the World Green Car of 2007 award from a jury of international journalists. The BLUETEC technology is responsible for making the cleanest diesel engines on the planet.
With the E320 BLUETEC, Mercedes uses a six-cylinder diesel powerplant to generate as much torque as a traditional gasoline-powered V8 while achieving fuel economy figures worthy of a compact car powered by a four-cylinder engine. To give you an idea, this Mercedes can travel over 1,100 kilometers on a single tank of fuel.
BLUETEC engines minimize nitrogen particles in the exhaust system in order to meet the most stringent emission standards in the world. The German automaker actually became the first to control its entire exhaust gas production.
After California, Mercedes will launch the E320 BLUETEC in the other 49 U.S. states. Meanwhile, the BLUETEC lineup will be expanded to include the M-Class, R-Class and GL-Class.
