The rebirth of the Mini occurred in 2001. Since then, the premium compact car has found 1 million takers in 80 markets around the Globe. Plant Oxford has expanded and grown exponentially since 2001; a reflection of the car's immense success.
Six years ago, 2,400 employees assembled 300 cars per day. Today, some 4,700 workers work through three sifts and put together no fewer than 700 Minis in one 24-hour period, 7 days a week. Maximum capacity has risen from 100,000 to 200,000 units over these past 6 years and is expected to rise once more up to 240,000 in the medium term.
BMW's 380 million Euro investment in the Plant since 2000 is a testament to Mini's continuing success and the upcoming addition of a third model: the Clubman.
The 1,000,000th Mini is owned by BMW Group's heritage division, Mobile Tradition. The Cooper S features numerous special options, is painted in Pepper White and Almond Green. The roof has a graphic that depicts 1 million little Minis and the interior sports the same colors as the exterior.
