Whitby – This year marks MINI’s 50th birthday. The first model of the British cult car rolled off the production line 50 years ago this August, and this is an occasion worth celebrating. On Friday, June 19, MINI and the Crescent Street Merchant Association in Montreal are joining forces to celebrate both MINI’s and the street’s 50 years of success.

Montreal’s Crescent Street, known for its bars, pubs, restaurants and shops will close off for pedestrian traffic between Ste. Catherine and de Maisonneuve to celebrate everything that is MINI. Also known as MINI Night, MINI owners from Quebec and Ontario will exhibit their cars along Crescent Street. The party kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday when festival goers check out approximately 50 unique MINIs as they fill Crescent Street to celebrate the golden anniversaries.

In honour of the past 50 years, Crescent Street will remain closed on Saturday, June 20th, to turn back time and relive the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the 2000’s. The street will be divided up into five interactive sections representing the five celebrated decades that MINI and Crescent Street have been around. Each section will take onlookers back to observe what Crescent Street and MINI cars looked like back in the day.

Within each section, there will also be a stage representing the particular decade. The public is invited to a spectacular line-up of free live performances every hour on the decade stages. There will be free concerts by Michel Pagliaro at 5 p.m., Honeymoon Suite at 7 p.m. and Glass Tiger at 9 p.m.. Professional dancers will also light up the stages as they perform with period appropriate costumes and choreography.
