Last weekend, MINI introduced the world to its sixth model – and first-ever two-seat convertible. A spin-off of the MINI Coupé, the Roadster will encroach on the Mazda MX-5's territory and offer four different trim levels, three of which will exploit a 1.6L, 4-cylinder gasoline engine.
The base model is rated at 122 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged Roadster S will boost those numbers to 184 hp and 177 lb-ft. The inevitable John Cooper Works (JCW) model will act as the lineup's ultimate rocket with 211 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque under the hood.
Last, but not least, is the turbodiesel-equipped SD. Unfortunately, there's little to no chance of seeing this model in North America when the MINI Roadster goes on sale next summer.
MINI claims that the new car handles just like a go-kart thanks to a rigid chassis and lower centre of gravity.
