Rumours and reports are circulating that the third-generation MINI will be built in Shengyang, China as early as 2015. The move would be in an effort to cut down on importation costs as the cars built in China would be used for the local market only.
MINI was reluctant to start production in China due to low sales volumes, however, the introduction of the latest Paceman model and the hype of an upcoming third-gen Cooper have BMW convinced the move will be worth it. Also, the MINI won’t be the only vehicle produced at the Shengyang plant, it’s rumoured that an unknown front-wheel-drive BMW model will also be assembled there.
So, if the F56 MINI rumoured to be produced in China will stay in that market, what about the rest of the world? Well, BMW will definitely be building their third-generation MINI vehicle in the Netherlands and their historical Oxford plant.
