Mitsubishi has crossed the genes of the Outlander with the genes of the Lancer Evolution, and displayed the resulting prototype at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS).

Mitsubishi says the special model will build on the success of their current Outlander while showcasing several new technologies to enhance performance and efficiency.

The prototype boasts features such as Idle Neutral Logic, which places the transmission in neutral at a stop, as well as better mileage and 230-hp output from a revised 3.0-litre SOHC MIVEC V6 engine. Outlander GT gets an Evo-inspired front end with a deep, dark grille and fog-lamps--among other styling distinctions.

The Japanese automaker's award-winning Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system is on board as well. S-AWC has won plenty of praise from owners and the media alike for its ability to seamlessly power all four wheels in a manner which maximizes traction and performance on any surface.
