Following in the footsteps of Brazil, Sweden and the United States, the Canadian government plans on increasing the availability of E85 bioethanol at refuelling stations across the country. The decision was among the highlights of the latest federal budget.

General Motors, which currently offers no less than a dozen E85-compatible models, obviously welcomed this announcement. The American automaker is a world leader in the development of E85 flex-fuel vehicles. One of them, the Oshawa-built Chevrolet Impala, can be identified by a Flexible Fuel nameplate and a yellow gas cap. By running on bioethanol, the Impala Flex-Fuel is able to deliver excellent performance with significantly lower lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions than gasoline.
