Like so many other multi-brand manufacturers DaimlerChrysler is under pressure to increase its parts and platform sharing so this move should relieve bean counters and industry analysts alike. DC has already announced component sharing between Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler, slotting the M-B 3.2-L V6 drivetrain into the upcoming Chrysler Crossfire - something the German company stated wouldn't happen when it initially merged with the Chrysler Group.

That said Mercedes-Benz will limit its component and platform sharing so that its premium brand doesn't become diluted. Company officials say that virtually anything goes when it comes to Chrysler and Mitsubishi though, meaning that future opportunities in the subcompact and large car platforms are possible.
