Women and CASCAR

Like Danica Patrick in the IRL, CASCAR seems to be the destination of choice for women racers in Canada. Last year Tara MacLeod

made her rookie debut, and while she got roughed up a bit, she managed to survive her rookie season, and word is she will be back in 2006. Joining MacLeod will be west coast driver Jessica Cyr, who will drive for Chocko's Team 3 Red in 2006. Cyr's stock car experience is limited to say the least, and she is making a major step up when she joins the series full time in 2006.

While I expect both those women to be at the season opener in 2006, another name to watch out for is Amanda Connolly. Connolly has earned her stripes in the short track wars of Ontario, and she is rumoured to have the funding to do the season opener in a Monte Carlo. Connolly has over 100 checkered flags to her credit in Thunder Car and Late Model, and she is in a good position to impress at the season opener in 2006, as it is expected she will have decent equipment at her disposal. Hopefully she will impress enough for someone to step up for the rest of the year, so she can be the third woman in CASCAR.

with a sixth place finish at the Formula BMW World Finals. Wickens was the fastest in practice, but a technical disqualification in qualifying sent him to the back of the grid for the heats. In those three heats, Wickens passed a total of 39 cars to finish 6th, 5th and 3rd in his heats. Starting seventh in the pre-final, Wickens had contact and finished 27th. Undeterred, he motored from 27th to sixth in the final....
