If he can land an engine supplier that he can control, watch out. Many already think a deal with
Richards is done between Kia or Hyundai, both of which are said to be circling the F1 circus.
Be that as it may, there is a lot that Richards has to do before any car bearing Prodrive's name ever turns a wheel. But time is on his side as new rules will be in place - what they are, nobody knows at this point.
Richards also probably has a set of goals, just like anyone else, and putting his car ahead of anything powered by a Honda at the first race weekend for Prodrive has to be on his radar screen.
Nearly too Funny to be True
Grandprix.com had an interesting little tidbit on the FIA - and I'm not making this up - planning
to do tests to learn more about wheel over wheel accidents. You're kidding right?
Nope, the news item said, "The FIA hopes that they [the tests] will reveal ways to stop cars flying after wheel-to-wheel impacts. The tests will also be used to simulate nose-to-wheel impacts."
Results of the test could determine rule changes to the front wings of Formula 1 cars. I should call them and offer to help; it would take about 10 seconds to explain. They are open wheeled cars, the wheels are rolling in opposite directions when they hit each other, and
one has to go in the air - end of story.
As for the solution, they're called "bumpers".
News and Notes
Spengler Fifth in DTM... Bernd Schneider went two for two this year in DTM this past weekend at the Lausitzring. Schneider finished ahead of Tom Kristensen, Mika Hakkinen, Jamie Green and Canadian Bruno Spengler.
"I started
well and it was a thrilling race. Fifth is my best DTM finish so far. I hope this was my breakthrough."....
True-x to form... Martin Truex, Jr. has Talladega's number. With the Cup race rained out, Truex will have to wait to see if he can clean sweep the weekend, but his Busch record is still growing. Truex won his third consecutive NASCAR Busch Series race at Talladega ahead of the resurgent Kevin Harvick. Truex survived the now infamous late race yellow, and the following three lap dash to the flag. The Cup race will run today (Monday), and will be in next week's report.
