Most sportscar clubs offer driver training several times per year. Following the driver training sessions, during which a student spends time behind the wheel of a racecar accompanied by an instructor, the rookie must participate in three novice events under the supervision of race officials. The rookie must demonstrate an understanding of all racing and safety rules. He or she may also be required to volunteer time performing technical inspections, scoring, timing and flagging duties.

After meeting all of the novice conditions, a rookie may apply for a senior license enabling him or her to compete anywhere in Canada or the United States, provided club affiliation is maintained. Talladega here I come!

Stay tuned, should I decide to threaten the crown of the great one I will describe for you in all its glory, every white knuckled straightaway, turn, skid and spin. And with Lady Luck in the co-pilot's seat I might actually qualify to receive a highly revered racing license and the right to drop five-grand on a well used racing machine. Beware King Richard!

I want to acknowledge and thank Malcolm, Lorenzo and the entire Wessex Racing Team for the hospitality and wonderful insight they provided me over three hectic days at this year's Vancouver Indy. I hope you burn more racing fuel than midnight oil this season. Good Luck to you all and may the checkered flag fly high over Wessex.
