Brad Keselowski, a regular on Twitter, tried something new on Wednesday evening – a Twitter press conference.
In the form similar to a moderated chat the driver of the #2 Miller Lite Dodge in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series took questions from leading NASCAR media with the added appeal that his almost 30 thousand followers could read his answers in real time.
Although it didn’t move as quickly as a video broadcast, as Keselowski started out on typing on his cell phone instead of merely replying orally, by the end of the 90-minute session the Michigan native covered some significant ground.
He previewed the upcoming Brickyard 400 when he tweeted “no secret over the years how tough it is to pass at Indy. The groove there is so narrow and requires a lot of driving precision. Seems like once u get to the front, that u can use the dirty air off your car to hold back those around you. This effect turns the race into strategy. Saving fuel and racing hard on the restarts are critical. From there you have to avoid mistakes.”
When asked which would he prefer, either a win at the Brickyard 400 or a lock in the Chase he wrote “Sure I can't have both? I still believe this sport is about winning. That's y I love the wild card format. I'd take the W(win) and be happy for RP (Roger Penske) & our team.”
On a lighter note, when asked if he would kiss the famous “Yard of Bricks” and for how long he would lip smack them Keselowski replied “Idk (I don’t know) But I'm gonna try and find out! I can only imagine it's all gritty and nasty. Which means I'll love every second :)”
Whether this form of interview catches on is yet to be seen, but, Brad Keselowski - who regularly responds to Twitter follower’s questions - appears to be on the leading edge of merging social media with tradition media.
