NASCAR driver, Brian Vickers, was released from a Washington D.C. hospital on Friday night after admission to diagnose blood clots in his legs and near his lungs.
The 26-year-old, who drives in the Sprint Cup Series for Red Bull Racing Team, will be heading home to the Charlotte N.C. - area.
A team release said Vickers “was cleared to fly to Charlotte, N.C., where he will meet with a group of specialists as to the specifics of his condition. The status of Vickers’ return to racing is uncertain. “
Updates will be provided as they are received.
Earlier in the weekend Jay Frye, the racing boss of Red Bull Racing Team said that “currently, he’s being given medication to dissolve the clots. He’s been thoroughly tested and given a clean bill of health.
“The doctors are not sure what caused the clots or how it happened. We’ve been in constant contact with Brian. He’s in great spirits and he’s doing very well. At this point there’s really no time table for his return.”
Casey Mears, who is substituting for Vickers at Dover International Speedway, qualified 39th in Vickers’ Toyota.
