JR Fitzpatrick (Chevrolet) won a shortened NAPA Autopro 100 today in Montreal, the last road course scheduled on 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series calendar.

Alex Tagliani (Chevrolet) who was starting on pole position had once again engine issues, like in Trois-Rivieres a couple a weeks ago and had to retire early in the pits to never come out.

“A connecting rod went through the oil pan. That was it,” said Tagliani.

Fitzpatrick was able early on to take the lead away from Tagliani and he never relinquished it until the race was red flagged due to a major accident with less than 3 laps to go.

Even tough, Fitzpatrick was really in a league of his own, DJ Kennington (Dodge), series leader Andrew Ranger (Ford) and Kerry Micks (Ford) were never far behind and battle it out during most of the event.

With a few laps to go, on the last restart, Ranger was able to pass DJ Kennington for second but all that work when to waste when a collision between Scott Steckly and Don Thomson Jr at the Senna corner ended the race prematurely.

Steckly’s car ended up on its roof.

But finally, NASCAR Canada declared after the race that Kennington was fourth while Ranger was officially second.

Meanwhile, Patrice Brisebois finished 12th, Patrick Laperle 15th and former AMA champion Miguel Duhamel crossed the finish line in 17th.

Next race to be held in Barrie for the Torbram Electric 300 September the 12th.
