NASCAR Nationwide series' drivers Patrick Carpentier (photo), Carl Edwards and Kenny Wallace were the guests of a press conference held Friday at the Daytona International Speedway.

François Dumontier of Stock-Car Montreal also took part in the event.

"Speaking on the behalf of the Montreal community and mayor Gerald Tremblay, I am proud to welcome NASCAR to Montreal. This year, the NAPA Auto Parts 200 will be the only major car racing event to be held in Montreal. We are ready for the event. Every corner of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit has been repaved this spring," Dumontier said.

Local driver Patrick Carpentier, who will be behind the wheel of the No 55 NAPA Camry of Michael Waltrip Racing in Montreal said: "This year, there will be no Sprint Cup race that same weekend. And for the fans, the race will be held on the Saturday and the Sunday. I'll be driving a pretty good car. It's always a fun event but let's hope for a dry race this time!" Carpentier finished second in the previous two editions of the event.

Carl Edwards, who finished 6th last year, declared: "When I saw the rain coming down hard last year, I said to myself that the fans are going to leave. Well, no! They all stayed there, waiting for the race to be restarted. That was amazing. We always have a great time in Montreal."

Kenny Wallace explained that he found sponsorship for this race on the web. "I started using Twitter and Facebook early in the year. I then posted a word that I didn't have a sponsor for the Montreal race. My number of followers immediately jumped to 13,000! Fans said "We want a fan car". So I offer them the chance to sponsor my car for 20$. We're up to 70% of the money we need to go racing in Montreal. I can't believe just a month ago I didn't know what Paypal is!"

The NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge will be held on circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, August 29-30. Tickets are available at www.circuitgillesvilleneuve.ca and 514-397-0007.
