Qualifying was pretty hectic for NASCAR's Sprint Cup drivers at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Some 46 teams showed up for Sunday's Samsung 500 event as Dale Earnhardt (Chevy No 88) finally grabbed his first pole for Hendrick Motorsport.
Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) was second fastest followed by young Kyle Busch (Camry No 18).
Canadian driver Patrick Carpentier was next to last to qualify and only had to do one lap to grab the 27th starting spot. By the way, Patrick has signed yet another sponsor, Lifelock for eight races.
The qualifying session was stopped for more than an hour after young Michael McDowell (Camry No 00) hit the wall at some 190 mph. The car was totally destroyed after it barrelled down the track doing seven flips. McDowell came out of what was left of the car without a single scratch, proving that NASCAR's new rules for cars are safer than ever.
Three drivers did not make it, Burney Lamar (Dodge No 08), Dario Franchitti (Dodge No 40) and Chad McCumbee who was replacing Kyle Petty (Dodge No 45).
