The final two practice sessions for the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway were held Saturday on the one-mile oval under grey skies and in humid weather.

It rained during the night and the jet dryers were put to work to dry the race track before the NASCAR Sprint Cup cars could start practice.

In the morning session, Jimmie Johnson planted his Chevrolet in first place with a time of 29.254 seconds, at the average speed of 130.198 mph. Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick followed in order.

The track and the weather conditions had changed dramatically, forcing the crew chiefs to change the set-up of the race cars.

In the afternoon, the was still hot and humid. David Stremme out his Chevrolet on top of the timing charts with a lap completed at the average speed of 130.644 mph. Jeff Gordon ranked second and Jimmie Johnson was third.

Ryan Newman, driving the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Chevrolet, captured pole position yesterday for the race.
