Almost a third of NASCAR's Sprint Cup race qualifying were cancelled this season because of rain and the latest victim of Mother Nature is the Pep Boys Auto 500 to be run Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Indeed it did rain again on Friday afternoon in Atlanta and that forced NASCAR to establish a Sprint Cup line up according to point standings.

Consequently, Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) will start inside the front row with Greg Biffle (Ford No 16) at his side, followed by Jeff Burton (Chevy No 31), Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) and so on.

The cancellation made two victims. First is Bryan Clauson (Dodge No 40) who was to try to qualify for his first official Sprint Cup race. Second is Joey Logano (Camry No 02).

The two drivers were the 44th and 45th cars of an official  starting grid limited to 43 cars.
