Kyle Busch (Camry No 18) had the pole late that Sunday afternoon and led many laps of NASCAR's longest Sprint Cup race. But he started having electrical problems. Kurt Busch (Dodge No 2) took the lead but blew a tire and scrapped the wall.

Brian Vickers (Camry No 83) also had the lead but lost a wheel and crashed. Crowd favourite Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Chevy No 88) took the lead but he too had tire problems and scrapped the wall.

Veteran Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) seemed poised to win another race at his favourite track but blew an engine and finished 39th. Later, Tony Stewart (Camry No 20) seemed like he was sailing to victory after a quick and well planned pit stop but blew a tire a few laps to the chequered.

Kasey Kahne (Dodge No 9) who had led a few laps at the beginning of the race was running second and finally got to the finish line first followed by Greg Biffle (Ford No 16) and Kyle Busch.

As for Canadian Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10) who had qualified 34th at the start, he stayed within the last positions. Late in the race, he lost control of his car and scrapped the wall. He was still able to continue but an ailing engine cut his hopes short and had to settle for the 37th spot at the end.
