Although his words said one thing, Mark Martin’s appearance said another as he finished second in the Sprint Cup points for the fifth time in his career.

A weary looking Martin came into the post-race interview wearing his heart on his sleeve, you could sense it, but, you couldn’t see it. It was there when he said: “There's no frustration, man. I know you'd love it. I know y'all would love it, but there's no frustration. There's none. I'm very proud of what we accomplished.

I'm very proud of what we accomplished, and on top of all that, I had more fun than anybody. What else can you say, man? I had a blast. It's been an honor and a privilege, and I didn't leave nothing. I never left anything anywhere.

Denny Hamlin Inspirational – or what were Juan Pablo Montoya and Tony Stewart thinking?

On Saturday Denny Hamlin was penalized for saying then spinning out Brad Keselowski in the Nationwide race.

Around lap 114, of Sunday’s Sprint Cup finale, Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya were battling and it got rough. Montoya shoved Stewart’s car from behind. On the following lap Stewart drove Montoya’s car down the track causing it to lose control and then hit the outside wall. It took 28 laps to repair Montoya’s injured car. As soon as the Columbian got back out on the track he spun out Stewart earning a two-lap black flag penalty.

Both drivers “were unavailable” for interview after the race. Expect to hear more from NASCAR about further penalties on Tuesday.

In Hamlin’s post-race winner’s interview he was asked what he thought about that confrontation. He smiled, spoke aloud, but not into the microphone “I’m glad I was the inspiration.”

And, if that didn’t make the point he later tweeted “@jpmontoya gee I think I may have inspired u!”
