Martin Truex (No 1 Chevy) ran the fastest speed at the Daytona International Speedway Sunday afternoon at 47.87 seconds with an average speed of 188.001 mph proving that the new Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing Team might be a force to reckon with this season.
His Daytona 500 pole position is assured so is Mark Martin's (No 5 Chevy) front-row second spot.
For all the other drivers, they will have to compete in Thursday's twin Gatorade Duels in order to really qualify for the Daytona 500. Many people expected veteran Bill Elliott (No 21 Ford) to be the man to beat.

Thirty-nine drivers are locked in for the Great American Race. Three spots are left for some 13 drivers seeking to do the race.
