Once again, for a second week in a row, rain cancelled the NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying session on Friday afternoon. This time, it happened at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the first race of the Chase for the Cup.

Consequently, the starting grid for Sunday's race will show point leader Kyle Busch (Camry No 18) with Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) on front row while Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48), winner of the last two races, will start third.

Canadian Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10), who had the pole here earlier in the season, will start 38th.

There was some NASCAR Craftsman Truck practice earlier in the day and Canadian-born Mario Gosselin (Silverado No 12) ran the 27th fastest time.
