Milverton, Ontario's Scott Steckley (Dodge No 22) won the very first race of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire series, the Crown Jewel 200 Saturday evening at Cayuga Motor Speedway holding off Kerry Micks (Ford No 02) and Ron Beauchamp Jr. (Dodge No 60).
Among crowd favourites, veteran Don Thomson Jr (Chevy No 4) who had the pole had to settle for 13th place while last year's champ Andrew Ranger (Ford No 27) finished 17th.
His new teammate, Alex Tagliani (Ford No 7), went throught electrical problems and ended up 21st.
Last year's championship runner-up, D.J. Kennington (Dodge No 17), missed a Nationwide race to run Cayuga but had engine problems that sent him dead last (24th).
Next Saturday evening, the series will be at l'Autodrome St-Eustache.
