Starting from the second place on the grid, Quebec native Alexandre Tagliani (Ford No 7) finally won his first ever NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race, the Edmonton 100 a road race held Saturday afternoon at Rexall Speedway in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tagliani picked up his first win in just his eighth start in a stock car.

To do so, he had to fight off current point leader Scott Steckly  (Dodge No 22) and his teammate Andrew Ranger (Ford No 27).

Steckly finished second, 1.404 seconds behind Tagliani. Ranger was third. Actually, there was only one leader change during the race and that was when Tagliani beat Ranger for the lead between turns 10 and 11 on the first lap.

"Wow! What a thrill this is," said Tagliani. "We've had some problems this year with the equipment, but all the credit goes to the crew. They gave me a great car and all I had to do was drive."

J.R. Fitzpatrick (Chevy No 84) finished fourth followed by D.J.Kennington (Dodge No 17). Don Thomson Jr., Jason Hathaway, Kerry Micks, Mark Dilley and Dave Whitlock rounded out the top 10.

There were only three cautions flagsituations for a total of eight laps.

The Canadian Tire Series makes the cross-country trip this week and will be at Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the NAPA 100 joining the NASCAR Nationwide Series for the huge NASCAR weekend in Quebec.

A season ago, Kerry Micks (No. 02 Beyond Digital Imaging Ford) made a thrilling last lap pass of Ranger for the victory.
