Ford has promised a unique new Mustang variant every year to excite fans and collectors alike. For 2007, the word unique has become an understatement with the upcoming introduction of the new Ford Interceptor.

It's got a 5.0 litre Cammer engine with 400 horsepower, a gated six-speed manual gearbox like a Ferrari and it runs on E85 ethanol fuel, so it's not as environmentally un-friendly as its specifications might let on.

That doesn't sound altogether too incredible- but the new Interceptor Concept has another addition- a set of rear doors. We'll give you a moment to read that again. That's right, Ford has pulled a "Dodge Charger" and created a sedan variant of a classic two-door muscle car.

Peter Horbury, Fords Design Director, Explains. "The Ford Interceptor concept has the soul of Mustang but combines 'Built Ford Tough' attitude with the sporty elegance of '60s Ford sedans. This concept celebrates the best of

American muscle. And if it looks familiar, it should. That's because we've translated the design language of last year's F-250 Super Chief pickup concept onto a car."

Fans needn't worry that Ford Chief Alan Mulally's recent talks with the head of Toyota has brainwashed him into making the 'Stang into a boring four-door. Fortunately, it's mostly just a shared platform venture with no Mustang nomenclature, although the Interceptor does have a shaker hood.
