New info on the sporty Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S has surfaced, a sign that we’re on the brink of seeing them descend on our roads.

The BRZ, who broke cover twice in its simplest guise, will finally be exposed, complete with a body, at the Los Angeles Show in November. It won’t be the final version, though, as Toyota and Subaru have chosen to reveal their production models in Tokyo a month later.

That’s still excellent news because it means we’ll finally be able to get our hands on an FR-S or BRZ in 2012.

Contrary to certain rumours flying about the internet, the Subaru model will only come as a RWD model, with no AWD in sight, only the second Subie to do so after the 1954 1500.

The 2.0-litre, naturally aspirated, direct injection 4-pot will churn out 200 hp and the centre of gravity will be set at around 17.7 inches from the ground, putting it in the same league as the Ferrari 485 Italia and Porsche Cayman.

Scion FR-S vs Subaru BRZ: one and the same?
Both cars will be manufactured next spring in Japan (Gumma) and will share the same suspension, engine and body. We’ll be able to tell them apart by their distinct font ends, however.

The BRZ will feature more standard equipment than the FR-S as well. Scion is positioning itself as a personalization guru, and its version will be sparer but offer tons of varied options.
