Is there such thing as too much horsepower? The engineers at Porsche say "nein", as the new 911 GT2 will come powered by a new 530-horsepower engine. The latest model and upcoming leader of the 911 range will be unveiled to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show on Sept 11.
It's the most powerful 911 to date, with 50 more horsepower than the last GT2 model. This is enabled by flow-optimization and an increase in boost from the turbochargers. With its 3.6-litre boxer engine driving the rear wheels only, the lightweight and unplugged 911 can rocket to 60 mph in a staggering 3.6 seconds while on its way to a claimed 204-mph top speed.
That's frightening--but to help drivers cope, there are standard fade-free and exceptionally powerful ceramic brakes, as well as Porsche Stability Management (PSM) fitted to the standard equipment list.
All of this performance is possible with even less fuel consumption than before, as a new intake manifold can save up to 15 percent on fuel during wide-open situations, despite the power increase.
You could use the savings in fuel to help offset the $191,700 (USD) pricetag scheduled for the window-sticker when the GT2 goes on sale in early 2008.
