BMW announced the upcoming launch of the new MINI Paceman Concept, a coupe-looking, Countryman-sized vehicle that pioneers a new genre called ''Sports Activity Coupe.''

Motivated by a 1.6-litre, twin-scroll turbocharged engine, the MINI Paceman produces 211 horsepower and maximum torque of 192 pounds-foot, which can be increased to 207 lb-ft in brief bursts thanks to the available Overboost function.

The four-seater study, whose two large doors and wide-opening tailgate unmistakably define it as a MINI, promises increased ground clearance and a raised seating position. Exterior styling will be different from other MINI models, too. ''We’ve given the MINI Paceman Concept a horizontal emphasis and accentuated the width of the car,'' explains Marcus Syring, Head of MINI Exterior Design.

According to the automaker, the model will target young urbanites who could use the Paceman to express their unique personality. It combines a sporty, masculine appearance with muscle car design cues. BMW will take advantage of the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the MINI brand's relaunch by presenting this fascinating new vehicle concept to the public.
