When the Twingo went on sale in Europe in 1993, it quickly became popular for its looks and functional layout. It also set the standard for Renault as a risk taker in design. It's taken almost 15 years for Renault to replace their revolutionary city car, and it seems like this time Renault designers chose a more conventional format.
Based on the Twingo Concept shown at the Paris show last fall, the production is similar with the only obvious difference is the losing of the huge panoramic sunroof.
Inside, there are traditional Twingo features like the central gauge pod (that started this whole trend) and an analog tachometer on the steering column that will look familiar to new Mini owners.
The most powerful Twingo motor is a 100 h.p. 1.2-litre turbocharged four cylinder, which, if Nissan would ever consider selling Renaults' here, would give the Smart ForTwo a legitimate city car rival here in Canada.
Giancarlo's other Renault
If you're a fan of this French brand, you know that without a true sorts car in their lineup, Renault utilizes their hot hatches for marketing tie-ins with their successful Formula 1 team.
Corresponding with the soon-to-start F1 season and the new R27 Formula One car for 2007, Renault introduced the Clio F1 Team R27.
A bright yellow exterior, anthracite coloured wheels and Renault Sport graphics differentiae this special edition from a not-so-run-of-the-mill Clio Renault Sport equipped with a 197 h.p. 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder.
