The tests aimed to compare the new GT Radial tire with a Firestone WinterForce (there you have the target customer). Both models fared similarly on ice and snow, which had many people believing that winter driving would be just as safe with either of them.

The IcePro's directional tread can receive studs, making it an ideal solution for demanding drivers who regularly face some of the worst winter conditions. There are two deep circumferential grooves and a large number of diagonal side grooves designed to expel water and slush to maximize the contact patch. Of course, the specific compound keeps the tire tread flexible even at low temperatures.

The T-rated (up to 190 km/h) IcePro is available in 28 different sizes, with a profile of 55 to 70, for 14'' to 18'' wheels. It will suit a wide variety of cars and light-duty trucks.

WinterPro: the newcomer
Meanwhile, the Champiro WinterPro is designed for urban drivers according to David Shelton, Vice President of GITI Tire US. As such, its tread can't receive studs.

On the other hand, just like the IcePro, it stands out with elliptical grooves that expel water and slush to maximize the contact patch. Additionally, hundreds of small blades integrated to the tread block design improve traction and also help evacuate water.

The directional WinterPro comes in 33 different sizes, with a profile of 50 to 80, for 13'' to 16'' wheels. Some have a speed rating of T (190 km/h), others H (210 km/h). Similar to the IcePro, it will suit a wide variety of cars and light-duty trucks.
