Of course, we could not talk about the NYIAS without saying a few words on the various Challenger models which Dodge proudly showed off in front of a wide-eyed crowd. Joining the previously introduced Challenger SRT8 were two more affordable models, the base SE and the mid-level R/T, the HEMI of which is almost as powerful as its sportier sister's.

Finally, the Koreans wanted in on the party, so they launched the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Surprisingly, the sedan's V8 is nowhere to be found with this 2-door model. It will make do with a 223-hp, 4-cylinder turbocharged mill or the optional 310-hp, naturally-aspirated V6.

This sporty RWD coupe promises excellent handling, as evidenced by a series of maneuvers performed by two professional stunt women inside the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

Obviously, there were many other vehicle launches, from the BMW M3 Cabriolet to the Mercedes-Benz ML Bluetec, both of which made their North American debut. And let's not forget the redesigned Infiniti FX50. It was only a start, as a second wave of model introductions is scheduled for Day 2 of the NYIAS.
