The Standard Taxi, although still in concept form, was one of many interesting stops in the TAXI 07 Exhibit, held in New York. For instance, there was the same exact taxi cab that Queen Latiffah drove in the movie Taxi. That car had been heavily modified to allow the engine to produce up to 1,000 horsepower!
Can you imagine that someone designed a taxi cab based on a Kia Rondo or even a Chrysler PT cruiser? You have to see it to believe it. The same goes for the old Checkers, the only cars in history that were truly built for this type of use.
The TAXI 07 Exhibit would not have been complete without a few extravaganzas, like the Monster Taxi with over one metre high wheels. What the story doesn't tell, however, is how people manage to climb on board.
So, the next time you hail a taxi, think about it. Maybe you'll get the chance to ride in the Taxi Cab of Tomorrow.
