Schnorbus commented, "If they pull back on incentives, the industry immediately hits an air pocket."
The same circumstances would in turn negatively affect Canadian production, which is currently forecast to maintain its 2.6 million vehicle rate. Again North American production is expected to drop approximately 200,000 units to 16.2 million, showing Canada's strength in the sector.
What else does 2003 have going for it? Four more new models for a total of 53 compared to 49 in 2002, more reasons for Canadians to upgrade their old vehicle for something new. Eight of these models come directly from Mitsubishi, the new company on the scene, with additional new models expected before the fall. There first full year of sales and additional outlets should help them to gain in Canadian market share. This is also expected of Nissan Canada, whose 2003 lineup features 50% new or redesigned models.
