Nissan North America (NNA) and Sumitomo Corporation will be introducing a new and very affordable quick-charge station designed to make EVs more accessible.

The DC quick charger will set buyers back a modest $9,900 (one third of the purchase price of similar products currently available on the market).

Buyers will have a choice between an indoor and outdoor version, both use a 480-volt electric current and will recharge the LEAF’s batteries up to 80% in under 30 minutes.

For now, the quick-charge station will only be offered in the United States.

Brian Carolin, NNA’s vice president for sales and marketing, anticipates that “thousands of these chargers will be installed across the country, enabling electric cars like the Nissan LEAF to be driven for even greater distances and duration.”
