New Echo Hatchback Coming to Keep Toyota's Subcompact On Top

A recent online survey conducted by Guideauto.com gave the Toyota Echo and the 4Runner best in class honours. Remy Rainville, Guideauto.com editor, along with Guy Corriveau and Sylvie Rainville, both associate editors, presented the Toyota Canada the publication's award at the 2003 Salon de l'Auto de Quebec.
The voting process, which took place over a two-month period, tallied Guideauto.com visitor's opinions in 12 categories. The Echo claimed the Best Economy Car while the 4Runner was deemed best SUV. "Toyota is dedicated to ensuring that our vehicles are built to the highest standards of quality and safety, that they meet our customers' needs, and that they are great value for the money," said Tony Wearing, Group Vice President of Vehicle Sales at TCI.

Last month, the Toyota Echo was the best-selling subcompact vehicle in Canada. Why so popular? While only the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio are its subcompact competitors the Echo is particularly roomy inside. It also comes with generous features and a very modest price tag.
Due to this overwhelming response from Canadian consumers, Toyota recently unveiled a new spin on the Echo theme, a "fun, funky and functional" Echo Hatchback that won't be going stateside. This new addition to the lineup will be available in a 3 or 5 door model.
