Mazda recalled 65,000 Mazda6s this week after discovering that spiders like to build their nests in the fuel tank system, putting the occupants’ safety at risk. Animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is encouraging owners… to donate their car.

The following message has been posted on their site: “If you're suffering from arachnophobia, PETA will be more than happy to help you out … by accepting your donated vehicle for use in animal rescue work!”.

The invitation is followed by the example of a PETA member who was terrified of mice and donated her brand new Jeep after a mouse scrambled out of the glove compartment.

PETA says they will “do their best” to safely extricate the spiders and find them a new home.

No word yet if someone has been inspired to such a feat of altruism.
