Improved Stopping Power and Lighter Weight Make Carbon-Ceramic Brakes the Best
There is no automotive component more important than a car's braking system. Motorists rely on them constantly, and subconsciously expect them to be up to pace in performance whether tapping them on the way towards a stoplight or under heavy deceleration in a panic situation. With regard to braking technology, the latest hardware to make stopping a more efficient process is carbon-ceramic brakes. Porsche will now be offering the high-tech braking system as an extra-cost option in its 2005 911 (997) Carrera.
So what benefits do carbon-ceramic brakes have over conventional ones? Firstly, the drilled and ventilated 350 mm (13.8 inch) discs used in the 997 weigh approximately 50 percent less than the brakes regularly used. Replacing the four heavy metal discs with new carbon-ceramic discs reduces the car by a total of 14 kilos (30.9 pounds).

Carbon-ceramic discs are extremely durable, and fade is also said to be minimal. Also, such discs are not effected by inclement elements or road salts, and are guaranteed to never corrode.
The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is an individual option to the new 911 Carrera and Carrera S, with a price tag of $11,400. While that might be a hefty price for a brake system upgrade, it's the best in the industry and according to those who've tried them worth every penny.
