The cockpit look so beloved of many interior designers and, presumably, even more consumers is prevalent in the new Q through the utilization of large, round instruments with electro-luminescent readouts.

There's also an integrated switch system that's supposed to make it easy to use the new, multi-function Vehicle Information System with its seven-inch LED touch-screen video display.Located high on the instrument panel, the Vehicle Information System "integrates and displays information ranging from climate control settings and maintenance updates to auto door-lock status and headlight on/off and delay settings."

The Rear View Monitor system uses the same video screen, Pendrill says. "With the aid of a small camera mounted near the rear license plate, the area behind the car is automatically scanned and displayed when the driver selects reverse with the transmission shifter lever."

More traditional luxury features in the new Q will include soft, high quality leather seating surfaces in a choice of three colors, genuine wood trim, a stylish wood and leather steering wheel, Infiniti's signature analog clock, a rear sunshade, and perhaps a 325-watt Bose premium audio system with digital architecture and eight speakers.

To keep the car on track after launch, Forsyth says, the 2002 Q45 has a new lightweight 4-wheel independent suspension. "Extensive use of aluminum castings allows the rear suspension to be 10 per cent lighter and the front suspension to be 5 per cent lighter," he explains.
