The changes for the second program primarily involve taking the big names (Ron Fellows, Paul Tracy and so on) out of the general categories and giving them their own contest.
MacPherson says this was done to ''better highlight the achievements of those who have yet to reach the pinnacle of the sport in their respective disciplines.''
The editorial team struggled to ''fairly represent all disciplines, series and regions of the country with our nominations,'' MacPherson says, but it's an ''impossible task to put forward the names of all the great racers who are deserving of recognition in the form of nominations. We did the best we could.''
To allow for potential errors of omission, ITMN left a blank space in each category so that the web visitor ''can rectify any oversights we may have made by writing in the name of a racer who you feel should have been on the ballot.''
