Rally: Jari-Matti Latvala rumoured to be joining Volkswagen in 2013

Finnish rally driver Jari-Matti Latvala is rumoured to be leaving Ford to Volkswagen at the end of this season.

The contract linking the Finn and the works Ford team expires at the end of 2012, after what Latvala would be free to go elsewhere.

The Finnish medias believe that an agreement has been already struck between Volkswagen and Latvala, who would joining Sebastien Ogier in the VW work team.

A third car could also be run for an upcoming young driver. Volkswagen could choose this driver between Kevin Abbring, Sepp Wiegand and IRC Skoda driver Andreas Mikkelsen. Those three may also be sharing the third car along the season. Obviously, neither Volkswagen nor Latvala have confirmed these rumours.

If the news is confirmed, Mads Ostberg, winner of Rally Portugal last month and Ott Tanak would be in contention for the second works Ford Fiesta RS.

However, Petter Solberg may also leave the Ford team at the end of the year, a move that would promote both Ostberg and Tanak as Ford works drivers for 2013.
