There's a more recent history of performance supremacy, too. From 2005, a Range Rover Sport model was available for driving enthusiasts more focused on on-road performance. A supercharged 400-horsepower V8 found its way under the hood initially, and output was recently increased to a prodigious 510 ponies. In 2007, the Range Rover Sport was Land Rover's biggest selling vehicle worldwide.
Range Rover fans will be celebrating the brand's fortieth birthday on June 17th of this year-- just months before Land Rover says they'll add a further member to the Range Rover family, for a total of three model lines.
The new vehicle will be smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient-- tying in with the brand's claimed commitment to environmental sustainability. Land Rover promises the new Range Rover model will be no less premium, luxurious or special than its predecessors.
