Ray's sunroof

I hate sunroofs. Sure, those that know me will say: “Matt, every old dirtbox you've ever owned had a sunroof and rusted and leaked but that was because the cars were old”. Perhaps. But I still despise sunroof be they made of metal, glass or cotton candy.

Here’s a little story about my buddy Ray and his brand spankin' new 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander.

There is nothing wrong with the Mitsubishi but there's something screwy going on with its sunroof/moonroof/retractable roof panel. My buddy Ray likes to go skiing with his wife and two kids. When loaded with his crew and day gear, the truck's trunk is unable to handle four sets of skis and poles.

To accommodate the long objects, my buddy Ray purchased what I call a roof-burger, his being made not by McDonald's but by Yakima. You know, that storage thingy you strap down to roof rails.

One day, my buddy Ray came to see me in my top-floor corner office at Auto123.com Towers to relate an interesting and troubling discovery; water on his back seat seemingly coming from his glass sunroof. He came to this conclusion by following water traces down the sunroof tracks and on to the dome light.

His guess, which made sense at the time, was that the burger prevented the sun from burning off frozen condensation on the inside glass surface. Once the vehicle was running, the cabin's heat would melt the frost and it would then trickle back through the headliner.

After giving the issue some thought, it became clear that this could not be the case.

If such was the case, then all those parking their sunroof-burdened vehicles in garages, be it at home or work, would suffer the same situation.

Me thinks his sunroof be leakin'. Stupid sunroofs!

Best to take the Outlander to the dealer, my good buddy.

Anybody ever experience this issue?
