During WWII the only Buicks made were ambulances and tank destroyers. When the war ended Buick only had 1942 styles and technologies to offer the public. The public was starving for new cars. The 1942 designs offered long flowing front fenders that pleased the eye, sending sales to yet another hot peak.

The British Royal Family chose Buick cars, partly because of their reliability, partly their posh appointment, and also partly because they were built in Canada which gave them "Empire Car" qualifications.

When Canadian GM executives visited the head office in Buick City Flint, Michigan, they went in their Canadian built Buicks. They were told to "park that thing around the back" so no one would see how much better they were built than their American counterparts. Could that be why there has never been a blush-pink Buick?
The racetrack was another place that Buick made history, winning 500 trophies from 1908-1910! A highlight was when Britain's Team McLaren and Australia's Repco used the aluminum V8 to humiliate the rest of the field in the Can-Am series of the 1960s.
Currently Buick continues as one of GMs premier marques, offering upscale features, decent performance and American-style luxury. The brand doesn't race much anymore, but instead is said to be targeting the likes of Lexus, focusing on luxury, refinement and classic good looks. And if its' current crop of concepts are anything to go by, Buick has a bright future in store. What's more, now that a longstanding sibling rivalry with Oldsmobile is over, with the latter brand being forced into retirement, Buick will no doubt inherit many disenfranchised Olds owners, bolstering its coffers.
