Both AutomotiveCompass, a leading industry research firm, and Chrysler suppliers revealed the automaker has decided to green-light the ''TR Ram Life Style Truck”. Production would start in October 2012 at the Windsor Assembly Plant, in Ontario.

This niche vehicle will likely become the ''spiritual successor'' to the Dodge Dakota and rival the Honda Ridgeline, sources said. Chrysler is reportedly projecting annual demand of 15,000 to 20,000 units.

The unofficial news came to light during last week’s meeting, where Chrysler management briefed major suppliers about its future production plans. AutomotiveCompass also received documents that disclose the identity of the vehicle (to be based on the company’s minivan platform), production location and timing for a launch.

The Windsor plant currently manufactures the Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country and Volkswagen Routan models.

Chrysler neither confirmed nor denied the report, citing ''a matter of corporate policy''.

Ken Lewenza, president of the Canadian Auto Workers, said he has not heard of any talk about producing the TR Ram Life Style Truck.
